Hi, you guyssss !! I hope you are doing amazing and staying safe! Also Happy Pride Month, to all of you!! Celebrate yourself today.
So to start of the pride month, today I will be talking about the movie “Love Simon”, the title of this blog, being the tag line of the movie.
Love Simon is a movie based on Simon, a closeted gay guy with an amazing family and a very close group of two friends along with a newcomer. In the movie, we see Simon meet someone online, talking through emails, who he later falls in love with, but later being blackmailed by someone who finds out about these emails and threatening to out him to everyone.
We see Simon struggle through the movie trying to figure out things he could do while accepting himself in the process. I am not going to give you guys any spoilers about the movie now, this is all you get, go watch it to find out what happens.
I wanted to talk about this movie in the blog today, as with pride month, I feel it is important to highlight the importance of accepting ourselves for who we are. I don’t just want to talk about LGBTQ+, but just ourselves, with our beautiful flaws and with all the different things that make us our unique selves.
We see Simon grow through the movie and accept who he is, and the struggle he goes through to do the same, even with a supporting family and friend group. It made me realise that, however close we are to certain people, it is never easy to accept a truth about ourselves. Even if we do accept it, it is difficult to say it out loud to people.
Another thing that I like about this movie is, that it connects with its audience. Simon is just another kid who is figuring things out, who goes through the same issues we all go through as we figure out our likes, our dislikes, our future. He is just like us, with similar struggles. Simon is shown to be relatable like most teenage characters, who just want to find their place in this society which likes to label and put us into boxes.
Love Simon is a movie which I love to watch, is because it is so lighthearted but at the same time gives an important message, about how it is difficult to be ourselves and it’s easier to just hide instead of take a risk of putting ourselves out there. But what is life without taking a risk? What is life if you are not your most authentic self?
I just hope you have amazing people around you, with whom you feel safe sharing who you are, every part of you, and they accept you. If you need someone to talk to, we are always here to lend an ear or a shoulder, if needed.
SAPPINESS SCALE – SAPPY AND MOPEY
