Hello everyone!! Welcome back and I hope everyone is safe and healthy. Today’s post is about the sequel show to Avatar: The Last Airbender (ATLA): Legend of Korra! Yay!
So Legend of Korra- Lok- is set about 70 years after ATLA (the show) ended. In LoK we see a young, teenage Korra and her group of friends and other members of Team Avatar work together and defeat their enemies. Something I really like about LoK is that we see Korra mess up. I mean in ATLA we did see Aang have his slip ups, but in Korra they seemed more relevant because she’s shown as a teenager and closer to my age when I watched it. In ATLA, for me at least, it was like ‘Aang is 12 years old of course he's going to mess up so it’s ok’, but in LoK because Korra is like 17 years old (in season one) it was like ‘oh no, she messed up, she's screwed, she can’t come back from that, now what.’ Every mistake she made seemed so bad, because when I was watching the mistakes that I was making seemed irreparable. So when I saw that Korra was able to fix her mistakes, it made me go a bit easy on myself (although my mistakes weren’t fixed with epic battles). The show let me fully realize that not all mistakes cause permanent damage.
One thing that ATLA and LoK have in common are themes of found family. If you don’t know what found family is, look it up. No, just kidding. Anyway found family is people you consider your family that are not related to you by blood, so like you might consider your best friend your sibling, or its someone you fully trust and can count on no matter what or however you define family. When I first watched ATLA as a kid I was too young to understand that concept, but in Korra I really connected to it because I was forming my own found family. Korra finds Mako and Bolin (brothers) and Asami and relies on them and knows that they will be there for her as she will be for them. I really like the concept of having a found family, it seems really beautiful even if you have a good blood family.
I do have to mention that we do see some people from ATLA. We see Katara, Zuko, and Toph, we all also see Aang and Sokka in some flashbacks. If you’ve seen ATLA, then you will not be disappointed with the fact that Toph is still an absolute badass. We also get to see Uncle Iroh, albeit he’s in the spirit world (so he's not alive), but it's ok because he is still sipping tea and handing out his ever amazing wisdom. I am upset that we don’t get to see a Katara, Zuko, and Toph mini-reunion but I’m still happy we get to see them.
SAPPINESS SCALE: MOSTLY HAPPY, SOMETIMES A LITTLE MOPEY
Thanks for reading!

PS: LoK also has comic books, like ATLA does.
