The Gaang

Hello! Welcome back!

Note: I know we haven’t been posting for a while, it’s because we both have been busy with work and studying. We decided to take a break and focus on work and our studies, and not stress ourselves out with all of that and the blog. But now we’re back! Although we are planning on making this blog a summer blog because we both are more free then. Now onto the post!

So today I’m talking about a show from my childhood that I have already rewatched multiple times. The show in question is Avatar: The Last Airbender. I’m not sure how many of you have watched this, but this show is for sure one of my favorites and it’s very close to my heart.

So the show, to put it simply, is amazing! The premise, character developments, graphics, just everything is so so so good! It’s supposed to be a kids show, but I think it can apply to all ages, especially Iroh’s advice (you’ll understand when you watch the show). So the show is based on the Avatar- Aang- and his journey to restore balance to the world. Of course he’s not alone, he has Appa, Momo, Sokka and Katara (they are siblings), Toph, and let’s not forget his enemies Zuko, Azula (also siblings), and Firelord Ozai (their father). In this show some people can bend the four elements- water, fire, earth, and air- but only the avatar can bend all four elements, and of course there are non-benders as well Sokka being an example. So the show follows Aang and the Gaang through their journey fighting the bad guys, becoming a family, dealing with their (traumatic) pasts, stuff like that. I cannot express how good this show is, watching it will make you understand my love for this show. I’m still going to try to explain it though.

Putting aside the fact that technically this is a kids show, it deals with a lot of mature content. Throughout the show we see these characters grow. We see them have complicated emotions, and we see them dealing with them and it's not always in a mature way. There are times when a character will basically just explode, but they have the others to help them work through their emotions. Another amazing detail is that the Gaang always has each other’s backs, for example if one of them makes a mistake it's acknowledged and then solved together. There are also some really tender moments when you see these tweens and teenagers become a family and support and love each other. Obviously the show isn’t all serious, it is a good mixture of mature and funny, intense and soft.

Honestly the show has everything. I can’t think of anything overtly offensive, in fact we see some very badass female characters. All the female characters are seriously so badass and amazing, even the villains. You might want to note the character developments because they are so well thought out and shown, it feels possible and gives hope that a person can grow the way these characters do. Also the side characters and the fluff episodes are also really amazing. The whole show is just so wonderfully done.

SAPPINESS SCALE: SAPPY, HAPPY, & sometimes MOPEY

Thanks for reading! And thanks for staying with us.

P.S.: There is a sequel like show- The Legend of Korra- the avatar after Aang, but that will have it’s own post.

P.P.S.: Don’t ever watch the movie adaptation (not the blue people one), it’s a disgrace and disrespectful to such a great show
