Hellooo, you guys!! I hope all of you are staying safe, the times have been tough, but I hope you have someone to talk to.
Today, I will be talking about the book, ‘The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo’, I know it sounds controversial, but it is honestly a really good read.
It, of course, focuses on our main character Evelyn Hugo, who is a famous actress in the book who has never given an interview or had any book written on her and the other character, Monique Grant, is a writer who is asked to write what the actress tells her.
The plot is focused on the life of Evelyn Hugo, who as we go through the book, lives her life to the fullest and has a lot of ups and downs, which we expect from the Hollywood industry and the lavish life that comes with it. We see her have seven husbands and a daughter with one of them.
I don’t want to spoil the book or give any spoilers, so I want to focus on the things that I learned from the book. It highlights how personal life and the life we put across is drastically different and we are never completely honest as to who we are, at any particular point except in our own company.
We also see her deal with a lot of different marriages, rivalry, relationships as she goes through life and we see how she learns from each of them and how her perception of love changes through time. Also the different kinds of love that exist, be it platonic, romantic, companionship.
There is also an element of LGBTQ+ to it, as it is set in the late 1960s, we see the struggles that the community went through, with the help of this book. The struggles that people went through to be themselves, to accept their reality in a prejudiced society.
One thing I absolutely love about the book is, the love the character holds for herself, she might have gone through a lot, made a lot of mistakes, but she knows it is things she had to do to survive, to stay alive, to be who she is today and she does not regret who she is, which is something really beautiful.
I hope more people accept themselves for who they are and forgive themselves for whatever has happened in the past.
I hope you give it a read in your free time.
SAPPINESS SCALE – SAPPY + MOPEY, BUT HAPPY
Thank you for reading!
Stay safe.
